Everybody says don't

I feel like everybody says don't to teenagers. Don't do drugs, don't skip class, don't go to parties, don't hangout with the wrong crowd. When will someone tell us to do? When will someone say help those in need, volunteer, love everyone, take opportunities. I say don't, don't be afraid. Listen to those who say don't but also tell yourself to do, to do something great and miraculous. Do something that will change he world. I say do and do it now.

Consideration

Some people don't think before they speak. Even adults. Mostly adults. Some adults believe that they are considerate and believe that they are kind. However, that is just on the surface. Deep down, if someone is rude and I considerate, that will come through by their actions. They don't think. They just don't think about others. The most important questions for people to ask themselves: how will this make other feel? Is this necessary to say? Could this be taken the wrong way? Everyone has their own person struggles and it just takes one inconsiderate comment to push someone over the edge.
My personal goal in life is to try my best everyday to make everyone I come in contact with feel loved and welcome. I don't see the point in being rash or selfish. I know that not everything is about myself. I just wish the majority of the population would realize this as well.

Mother's Day.

Wouldn't it be great if we could appreciate our mothers every day of the year? It's not like our mothers don't cook meals for us, clean the house we live in, do our tons of stinky, dirty laundry every week, do the grocery shopping and make sure we do our homework and are doing well in school. Our mothers never stop, so why should we stop appreciating them after Mother's Day?

Waiting. Patience. Today.

Waiting is a concept unfamiliar to most of my generation. Patience is as well. In math class the other day my teacher lectured us on how this weakness is greatly affecting our generation. I consider myself to be a patient person, but after hearing her point I have realized that she is absolutely correct. We are not taught how to be patient; everything we want is instantly at our fingertips. If we want to get ahold of a friend we can call them and if they don't answer we can text them instantly. If we can not remember the name of an actor in one of our favorite movies, instead of rewatching the movie or looking it up in a book we can just go onto our imdb apps on our iPhones. We do not have to wait for anything. Her point in sharing this realization with us was to explain why our math skills are decreasing. Most teenagers don't have the time and patience to sit down and really figure something out; they just except to understand it instantly. Society can also be culpable for the issue of learning. In today's world double tasking is not an anomaly; it is normal. Most students are so busy with extracurricular activities that they do not have time to really think through homework problems. Now I do not foresee our society taking a breather from this fast paced life style we have adapted, but what are we going to do about how it is affecting many students education?

When I Grow Up

"When I grow up I want to..." There are endless possibilities to finish that sentence. It is mind bottling how many opportunities we have; that in America a child can grow up to be whatever he or she wants to be. Many high school students struggle with the question "what do I want to be?"; however, that has never puzzled me. I have always wanted to help people; whether I knew how I was going to go about doing so or not, I knew that I needed to help people. Now that I am at the age where I need to start thinking of potential careers, I know I will "grow up" to be someone important. I know, wherever my life brings me, I will be following my heart and doing everything in my ability to make sure every child, adult, and teenager knows that he or she can be ANYTHING they put their heart and mind to.

Someday.

I see so many important people, doing important things and making a difference. And then there's me. I feel like I am doing nothing; I am going to school, doing my homework, going to rehearsal, and repeating. I want to do something. I want to make a difference. I can't tolerate just sitting on the side line watching the parade pass by. I want to be involved. I will be involved, and I will make a difference. Someday.... Today.

Congress.

I do not understand why it will be hard to pass a gun regulation bill through congress. I do not understand how people can still be opposed gun regulations. Have they not seen the tragedies that have unfurled in these past few years? Do they not know how much these events have effected the every day lives of the countries children? Students are always scared. My fellow students and I do not trust anyone anymore; we are always afraid that someone is going to come into our school and hurt us. I can not imagine the degree of fear parents feel for their children now days. If congress can not pass this bill, they can not protect their children. Children do not feel safe in America anymore, and they have good reason. Congress needs to come together and put their differences aside to protect their children and assure they feel safe and secure in their schools, homes, movie theaters, shopping malls, and especially their country.
